It’s been a few years since we’ve toured anything specifically for children – audiences might remember The Iron Man, The Butterfly Lion, Not Now Bernard etc – so it was with some trepidation that we decided to undertake a SCHOOLS TOUR this Autumn – but when a story is this good it just has to be told!
Michael Morpurgo’s delightful novel Farm Boy has lived with me since I read it first a few years ago – a beautiful evocation of the changing face of the British countryside and an exquisitely drawn relationship between a grandfather and his grandson – storytelling reaching out across time, across four generations of a farming family.
Published in 1997, Farm Boy is the prequel/sequel of the earlier and more famous War Horse (now enjoying life as a West End hit!), so it should perhaps not be too much of a surprise that the touring dates for this project have SOLD OUT within just a few weeks of their release – we’re currently looking into re-touring the piece in 2010.
Watch this space for updates about casting and progress on the great TRACTOR build – yes, that’s right, we’re going to be touring a full-size replica 1920s Fordson tractor!
